Taylor Sneak Peak - Edmonton High School/Senior Photography

Isn't she gorgeous?  Taylor came over to my house (after some prodding from mom) to do a quick photoshoot with me yesterday. I am supposed to be doing laundry and packing, as we are jetting off to Hawaii this week, but I would rather edit photos. Actually I would rather do anything but laundry and pack. And I wanted to get at least one photo on the blog for Taylor and her mom before we leave. Laundry can wait ;)

Baby Oliver - Edmonton Baby Photography

Here are some more photos from this week's photo session with little Oliver. He's got such a great smile!  And a special thank you to my husband's best friend for letting me use his giant Starbucks mug. I love the look Oliver is giving in the mug photo. It says to me "Yeah I'm sitting in a giant mug. What's it to yah?"  Three months old and already giving a little attitude! I've known Oliver's parents for a few years now...mommy and I used to play soccer (and we went on a girls only trip to Vegas before children) and I think daddy used to be my soccer coach. I know you will both have a tonne of fun watching your little man grow up!

Oliver Sneak Peek - Edmonton Baby Photography

It's not an illusion nor is Oliver a really tiny baby....but he is chillin' in a gigantic coffee mug. We REALLY like coffee in our house. Ha ha!  Okay, not quite. Maybe tea. Here is a sneak peek at yesterday's session with this little cutie.

Edmonton Humane Society Animals - Edmonton Pet Photography

I spent a few hours on Saturday at the Edmonton Humane Society and I was in puppy heaven! I love this part of my job! There were so many adorable adoptables....but sadly none came home with me, which my husband is probably thrilled about. Volunteering has been very a rewarding experience for me and I look forward to it every three weeks when its my turn for pictures. Its also quite difficult. Most of the cats don't want anything to do with me when I want their attention,  and the dogs are so happy to see someone they won't sit still. I had to clean a slobberly tongue mark off my lens at least twice on Saturday. And I'm sure the EHS staff think I am an accident waiting to happen as I perilously balance myself on the tiny window sills in order to get high enough. It's also amazing how many of the dogs know the word "treat." They could be strays with very little previous human interaction, but as soon as you ask if they want a treat, they stop dead and give that dog look. I love it!

Sykes Family - Spruce Grove/Edmonton Family Photographer

I've known the Sykes family for years -- twenty plus at least! Last year their youngest daughter and her family moved to Australia. They came back to Canada for a few weeks over the holidays, unfortunately timing their arrival with that horrible coldsnap last month. I imagine that was quite a shock to the system, walking outside for the first time after spending a year in a much warmer climate! However, I like the fact that the cold weather in our country means that the freaky bugs that live in Australia would never survive here. Yuck! Anyway, before they had to return down under the entire family got together for a group photo; all eighteen of them, including eight grandkids! (The second photo is of the Aussie-Canadians)

PS...I'm trying to upload a photo from a family shoot I did on the weekend, but I am having issues. The uploaded photo appears muddy looking and not as colourful as the original file. I can't seem to figure out why this is happening and it's driving me crazy! So I think I will sleep on it and hopefully I can fix the situation tomorrow. Grrrr.....If any of you can think of a reason why this is happening PLEASE let me know! Thanks!

ENMAX Pond Hockey - Edmonton/Sherwood Park Sports Photography

I had the pleasure of being asked to photograph the ENMAX Pond Hockey event in Sherwood Park last weekend. It sure was cold outside, but the kids loved it! Two Atom level hockey teams got to play a shinny game with members of the Edmonton Oil Kings and get signed autographs afterwards. I've never seen a "pond" hockey game before so I was pretty surprised when the game started with every single player, including four goalies, on the ice. The faceoff was hilarious (first picture)!  How can they even see where the puck is? I also learned that the gloves I was wearing were not winter appropriate!  My fingers were frozen! But I couldn't really wear big mitts because then I couldn't push the buttons on my camera. If someone invented proper winter gloves for photographers they'd make a million bucks. Well maybe not, but I'd certainly buy a pair.

Christmas Mini Portrait Sessions -- Edmonton Baby/Child Photographer

Merry Christmas! I hope you are more ready than my household....less than five days to go and I haven't even started my shopping. Eeek! Although I don't really need to buy my husband anything since he bought his own presents himself. It's been a busy week capped off with a few days of Christmas mini portrait sessions. This was a lot of fun and I will definitely be doing it again next year. I especially loved seeing all the kids in their Christmas outfits!  Makes me want to shop.

Pet Photos with Santa - Edmonton Pet Photography

This week was a new experience for me at the Edmonton Humane Society - Pet Pictures with Santa!  I had so much fun over the last two days. And if I counted correctly, there were 85 families that brought their dogs, cats, rabbits and children in for a photo with Santa - with every penny raised going toward the shelter. A few of the shelter animals even got their turn on Santa's knee including Sweet Pea, the pot-bellied pig, and the resident parrot. If you missed your chance to get your pet's picture taken, there are other opportunities throughout the city before Christmas. You can find all the details on the Edmonton Humane Society's website.
